What do to if your dog or cat has an accident on the carpet.
To lift the urine spot out of the carpet, it's important that you act quickly so it doesn't permanently settle into a stain. Urine starts out as an acidic substance, but turns into an alkaline one over time. We've got some tips and tricks for making sure you don't ruin your carpet.
To prevent a stain and permanent odor:
- Always use clean white towels for wiping so there is no need to worry about color transfer.
- Blot All You Can - absorb as much of the liquid as you can before it penetrates the carpet pad or sub-flooring.
- Use Hydrogen Peroxide - Start by filling an empty spray bottle with hydrogen peroxide 3%. Spray the stain. You can also pour directly onto the carpet if you don't have a spray bottle. Let sit until it dries.
- Peroxide is an oxidizing agent, this makes it effective for helping to break down stains and destroy odor-causing bacteria
- Only use 3% there's potential for color loss if a higher concentration of hydrogen peroxide is used.
- Call Classic Carpet Cleaners® - We will use the right products and tools to remove the remaining urine and neutralize the odors.
